Hatch points to new poll showing a tighter race with Branstad

DES MOINES – A new poll released Thursday shows a tighter race for Governor, and Democrat Jack Hatch feels like he has some wind in his sails.

Current Iowa polling results released by Gravis Marketing show Hatch closing to within 8 percentage points of the incumbent Republican Terry Branstad, who has enjoyed a sizable lead throughout the campaign, sometimes reaching 12% in some polls.

The Gravis poll asked potential Iowa voters “If the election for Governor were held today and the candidates were Republican Terry Branstad and Democrat Jack Hatch, whom would you vote for?”

Branstad came in at 51%, Hatch at 43%, and 6% are undecided.

Hatch took to social media Friday, proclaiming that “We’re closing that gap!” and vowed to fight all the way through election day on November 4.  “With 6 percent still undecided this race is within striking distance.

“We’re going to keep traveling, keep fighting and keep spreading our message everyday over the next 32 days.  Your support now is more important than ever.”

Hatch has a major disadvantage in funding, with Branstad millions of dollars ahead, and he has pulled TV ad spots in Sioux City and Quad Cities in recent weeks, although promising the ads would return.

This is one reason that the race is tightening. TB’s refusal to be honest or to change when he is proven wronghttp://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/opinion/editorials/2014/10/01/another-branstad-refusal-obey-law/16513659/

Polls are all in what you make of them and which one(s) you choose to believe. Hatch has to rally his base and make them feel that he is still in the race or his donations will most likely start to dry up….and soon.

@Buzz-They already have dried up. He has announced he is suspending all advertisements from now until the election. He says he is giving the public a break but the truth (which is hard to come by with him) is he is out of money. He is a slime ball that has already said he is going to expand public unions if elected. Anyone who thinks he will lower taxes is badly mistaken. I read today that only fools voted Democrat in 2008 and 2010 and the country has had enough of fools.

In my opinion, and my opinion only, it’s hurting Branstad that he won’t come right out and admit that he has Parkinson’s. FDR served while he had polio. Parkinson’s isn’t always disabling until years later. But am I glad he’s not doing this? You betcha! I’m voting for Hatch. Just look at our economy after getting the Republicans out of office. Hatch will apply our taxes where they need to go, and not into the pockets of cronies.
