MASON CITY – Iowa Congressman Bruce Braley stopped in Mason City to light a fire under his campaign supporters.
“These yard signs are doing no good over here,” Braley playfully chided a clapping room full of supporters Tuesday afternoon as he thanked them for their support in a grueling, tight election against Republican Joni Ernst. The campaign signs, leaning against a wall, were later snapped up by supporters as they left.
About 3 dozen Braley supporters waited for the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, who was running a little behind after being blocked by a train. He was introduced once he arrived at the Democratic Party office in downtown Mason City by Cerro Gordo County Democratic Party Chairman John Stone.
Braley thanked Stone for his leadership, and then remarked about how much North Iowa means to this election.
“Do I think North Central Iowa is important you better believe it,” Braley said. “This is the fifth time I have been here in Cerro Gordo County since August 5th.”
He said if Ernst is elected, it would put Iowa on a “radical Tea Party agenda that’s going to take us back into the past.”
Braley reiterated that he favors a minimum wage hike to $10.10 an hour and accused Ernst of wanting to privatize social security.
