Palmeter, Simons lead NIACC cross country teams

DECORAH – NIACC sophomore Hannah Palmeter placed second at the Luther College All-American meet Saturday in a five-kilometer time of 18 minutes, 34.6 seconds.
No. 4 NIACC placed fifth in the team standings with 131 points. St. Benedict won the meet with 38 points and Iowa Central was fourth with 121 points.

Luther College’s Tricia Serres won the race in 18:13.5.

NIACC’s Alyssa Cowan was 37th in a personal best time of 20:38.0. Other counting scores for the Lady Trojans were Lattie Crozier (64th in 21:29.3); Kalama Towarup (65th in 21:31.7) and Nicolle Hewett (67th in 21:37.5).

Also running for NIACC was Taylor Glawe (112th, 23:53.3); Emmorie Stokka (113th, 24:02.5); Leta Jaquis (114th, personal best 24:05.8) and BrandiAnne Daub (122nd, 25:59.7).

NIACC returns to action Friday at the Grand View Viking Invitational.

Meanwhile, freshman Trey Simons placed third in the 53rd annual Grinnell College Les Duke Invitational to help lead No. 4 NIACC to a fourth-place finish wtih 132 points.

Wartburg College won the meet with 40 points. Grinnell was second with 82 points and Carleton College was third with 84 points.

Simons placed third in the 8-kilometer race in a time of 25 minutes, 49 seconds. Zach Baker of the University of Iowa Track and Field Club won the race in 24:50.
NIACC sophomore Jaime Zarate was seventh in a personal-best 8K time of 26:14. Freshman Colby Kraninger was 41st (27:39), freshman Tyler Randall was 52nd (28:03) and Ricky Jeray was 79th (personal-best, 28:58).

Also running for the Trojans were Austin McCool (102nd, 29:52) and Jean Santil (124th, 30:33).

NIACC returns to action Friday at the Grand View Viking Invitational.
