Population of Mason City drops by three; all sent to prison for meth conspiracy

MASON CITY – River City just got a little smaller, as three drug dealers were removed from the streets and sent to prison.

Two men and one woman have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a Mason City methamphetamine distribution conspiracy.

George Lynn Perry, age 42, of Mason City, Iowa, received his prison term after an April 16, 2014, guilty plea; Angelita Lynn Gutierrez, age 42, of Mason City, Iowa, received her prison term after an April 21, 2014, guilty plea. David Charles Schaer, age 47, of Mason City, Iowa received his prison term after a jury found him guilty on May 7, 2014, of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Perry and Gutierrez each pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Perry was previously convicted of a felony drug offense in in ‘Worth County, Iowa in March 2003.

According to information disclosed at their sentencings and change of plea hearings, Perry was involved in multiple narcotics transactions from April 2013 to August 2013. He was being supplied large amounts of ice methamphetamine and, in turn, was supplying others with methamphetamine. Gutierrez was also receiving methamphetamine and selling it in the Mason City area to multiple subjects.

Evidence presented at trial showed Schaer was being supplied methamphetamine by Gutierrez and, in turn, he was supplying numerous other people.

Perry, Gutierrez, and Schaer were sentenced on September 10, 2014, in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda Reade. Perry was sentenced to 156 months’ imprisonment, Gutierrez was sentenced to 70 months’ imprisonment, and Schaer was sentenced to 110 months’ imprisonment. Perry must serve a ten-year term of supervised release after prison. Gutierrez and Schaer must each serve a 5-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. Perry, Gutierrez, and Schaer were each ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.

All three are being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until they can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers and investigated by the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Mason City Police Department, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
