AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior wide receiver Jarvis West was named to the Paul Hornung Award Week Two Honor Roll, was added to the Hornung Award Watch List and named the College Football Performance Award Punt Returner of the Week after his outstanding performance over the weekend.
West, a native of St. Petersburg, Fla., was responsible for three first-half touchdowns in Iowa State’s 32-28 loss to No. 20 Kansas State on Saturday. West caught a 17-yard TD pass, returned a punt 82 yards for a TD and threw a 29-yard TD pass to help the Cyclones go into the break with a 28-20 lead.
West became only the third player in FCS or FBS to record a TD catch, TD pass and a punt return for a TD in a game since 1998. He is one of four Cyclones in school history to tally a punt return and kickoff return for a TD in a career (Tom Vaughn, Don Ferguson, Dick Howard). West returned a kickoff 95 yards for a TD vs. Texas Tech in 2013.
The Cyclone caught a career-high eight passes for 75 yards vs. the Wildcats. He currently ranks second nationally in punt return average at 29.3.
The Hornung Award is given annually to the nation’s most versatile offensive player. West joins teammate Aaron Wimberly (RB) on the watch list.
