Albert Lea police stop 195 vehicles and arrest 5 impaired drivers

cited-police-featured1ALBERT LEA, Minn. — The Albert Lea Police Department recently concluded their participation in the statewide Labor Day Mobilization effort. The Labor Day Mobilization is a coordinated traffic enforcement period that ran from August 16th-September 1st with a focus on removing impaired drivers.

Officers made 195 vehicles stops in an effort to locate and remove impaired drivers from our roadways. Of these vehicles stopped, 5 drivers were arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI). The average breath alcohol (Brac) was .12 with a range of .09-.19. The per se legal limit in Minnesota is .08. One driver refused to submit to testing, which is a crime in and of itself.

In addition to the driver’s arrested for DUI the following violations were cited; 13-speed, 4-seat belt, 2-child restraint, 13-Driving on a revoked/suspended/cancelled license, & 9 other drivers were cited for various traffic violations.

The Labor Day Mobilization is part of the Towards Zero Death (TZD) initiative. Throughout the upcoming year, the Albert Lea Police Department will be participating in enhanced enforcement dates. The goal of TZD is to achieve 0 traffic deaths and reduce severe injuries from traffic crashes.
