Pledge of Allegiance to be recited at all council meetings in Sheffield

Sheffield, Iowa
Sheffield, Iowa

SHEFFIELD – The Sheffield city council has gone patriotic, and agreed earlier this month that the Pledge of Allegiance will be recited at every city council meeting.

Joining other area towns like Hampton, Sheffield city leaders will begin each council meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, it was decided at the August 11 council meeting. Some towns, like Clear Lake and Mason City, do not take time for the pledge.

In other business, the council announced that nearly enough funds have been raised for repairs to the city pool.  The cost has been estimated at $363,000, with $300,000 already raised.  As funds are still being raised, the council agreed that the city would pay the remaining balance if necessary.

In addition, Sheffield police are looking at adding taser guns to the department.  Costs of the weapons were given to the council for deliberation.

So how does reciting the Pledge contribute to better government? After all Congress starts each session with a prayer to the Almighty and look at how they perform their duties.

There’s nothing wrong with being proud to be an American. Maybe this country is turning around.

This country will turn around when it assigns new valuation and priorities to projects and tasks worthwhile to the continued striving and thriving of the people and environment. As long as false money continues to be printed up, and given away freely to cronies, this country will operating under false pretenses. How can anyone know the value of anything anymore? The Treasury Dept. prints up money at will and injects it. I won’t be singing any songs or pledging any allegiances.

Think about the forgivable loans and tax breaks made to Metal Craft (one of hundreds of businesses in North Iowa receiving this type of treatment). This money is essentially ethereal, as the cities assign a value to their services, and allow some members of the community to skate by with no toll. They are essentially performing their city services for a reduced or free rate. The rate could have been inflated in the first place…we’d never know. What is true value? It’s arbitrary.

I totally agree with what you are saying. My allegiance is to the flag and what it used to stand for. Unfortunately with a corrupt government it will never go back without another revolution.

To some aspects of the Constitution, and the above average human rights, I’ll give a nod to the USA, but I won’t swear unwavering loyalty. I’ve always said if a better Nation comes along, or is born, and it fits within my ethic and mission statement, I’d switch Nationalities. But my standards and bar are pretty high. Morality, Golden Rule Legal Philosophy, Libertarian, Land Sharing, Rotating Police Powers, Agrarian-Techno, Clean Renewable Energy, Justice System Overhaul.

It’s all about you, isn’t it? It always is. Define morality in YOUR world. On what standard do you base your morality?

Its always about him. Always has been, always will be. The only true skin he has in the game is his mouth which he’s continually flapping.

If he were to be treated as a share of common stock, he would have been dumped a long time ago and sold for a total lose as there is absolutely no ROI by paying attention to him.

Buzz there is a HUGE ROI on me, if you’d listen to what I say and put my ideas into practice. I have given society so many excellent suggestions and insights, one would have to be considered a curmudgeon for not listening…or a Crumcutter.

jibber jabber is not advice, it’s diarrhea of the mouth, literally.

Your status is nothing but Junk Bond….no value what so ever. Past performance proves my case.

I do agree, you suffer from a bad case diarrhea of the mouth, along with constipation of the brain.

Buzz you better get on board the Philosophus train, don’t want to be left behind. It’s moving fast.

The Philosophus train is one that rarely, if ever, leaves the station. The very few times it has, its never completed its intended run, nor will it ever fully complete ANY run. IF, you are the engineer, the rest of the crew is in grave danger and soon will perish.

Again, at best, you are at a junk bond status and have long ago lost any hope of ever getting your trading symbol back. Farewell lonely boy!

Too bad. I’ve got the hot chick and cool job.

Fake it till ya make it.

“Too bad. I’ve got the hot chick and cool job.”

Um, I’d like to use my “call bullshit” option now as that is what your hot chick and cool job are.

You should be ashamed of yourself, no self respecting, part-time, in your dreams, Buddhist says things like you just did. Not go clean your room like your mother has told you for the last couple of hours.

A somewhat ironic fact, it (the pledge) was written by Francis Bellamy, a Christian socialist.

LOL. True Christians would want everyone to have a home, medical care and food. The brand of Christianity in America is a convoluted, bi-polar, conflicted Darwinian, ‘strong survive 1st’-Christ may or may not lick the wounds 2nd. Fundraisers for organ transplants and medical conditions, but never eyeballing the almighty EYE OF SAURON (Dollar Bill) blocking the gateway to Heaven. It’s strange, and now that the Christians are opening the floodgates to Muslims: traiterous.

Thanks for the history lesson, Ron. Yes, we are very proud of that accomplishment. “One Nation Under God” is a permanent part of the Pledge. It won overwhelming approval from Congress and President Eisenhower signed it into law in 1954. The original version of the Pledge was adopted on Oct. 12, 1892, Columbus Day. Just recently with the help of the Beckett Fund Knights were once again able to defend those precious words “Under God”. And, we’ll do it again and again and again.

Baloney. Next they will develop a test for being a patriot. Its not in the words one recites, its the content of your heart and your character.

Good for them. I am glad to see there are some patriots left. If other people do not want to give the pledge let them move to Iran.

Agree for the most part.

Except only if it is recited the way it was before the Knights of Columbus got into it.

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

It’s a form of brain washing mind control. I’m against this strongly. It’s very juvenile to say the least. As if reciting this mantra has some relevance to your status as an American citizen. It does not. America is an evolving experiment. Why not recite a modern hip/hop version to represent patriotism? It’s a form of cultural preference, artistic bias, and invocation which violates freedom of religion for some. Mantras are like prayers. Do away with them all.

Figures, anti American to the bone.
