MASON CITY – Mason City School District is looking to make a decision on the future of Madison School – the last of the “older” school buildings still standing – and is accepting input from the public next week.

The Board of Education, in conjunction with their strategic planning process, will hold a meeting to discuss plans for the future of Madison Elementary. This meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 2, from 6-7 p.m. at Madison Elementary, located at 2620 South Jefferson Avenue.  Community members are invited to attend and share input about their wishes for the future of this facility.

The school was most recently used for seventh graders as renovations were underway at John Adams Middle School and the High School. The former elementary school served seventh graders for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years.

Some community activists want to see the school saved and used as a multi-purpose venue.  Others say the school is too far out-dated and repairs would be costly.

Perhaps in an effort to begin to deal with accusations in the community that the school district lacks transparency and openness, the board will then hola a discussion on developing communication and transparency planning.
