MASON CITY – Some people just don’t learn, and it doesn’t take long for them to prove it.
A Mason City man who had been accused of four serious drug charges involving methamphetamine, marijuana, oxycodone and hydrocodone had all but one charge dismissed as part of his plea deal accepted by the honorable judge Annette Boehlje last June. He as given a five-year suspended prison sentence, assessed $2,171.25 in fines and court costs and placed on three years of probation on the drug conviction and ordered to pay $1,126.13 in fines and fees on a driving while barred guilty plea. However, Wurtzel has paid just $100 toward those balances.
On August 6, the Iowa Department of Corrections accused Wurtzel of violating his probation and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was arrested on the morning of August 8 by Mason City police and taken to jail, where he is being held on $5,000 cash-only bond.
