MASON CITY – Roosevelt Elementary School in Mason City was recently awarded a bench from the Mason City Earth Day Committee as a prize for winning a milk jug collection contest.

Mason City elementary schools participated in the contest in April as one of several activities leading up to the annual Earth Day cleanup event. Students at Roosevelt collected 655 pounds of milk jugs, and the grand total of all participating schools was over 1500 pounds of milk jugs collected.

The bench was constructed at Plastic Recycling of Iowa Falls, which makes a variety of materials out of recycled plastic. It was placed inside the Roosevelt Elementary main entrance.
