MASON CITY – Police and emergency responders were called to a Mason City residence Monday late afternoon when a man called 911 and said he was suicidal and had a shotgun.
Authorities converged upon the 800 block of North Penn Avenue Monday at about 4:45 PM. A man at a house there said he was upset and suicidal due to family issues he was dealing with. He told dispatchers that he had a shotgun in the closet and wasn’t sure what he was capable of.
Police responded with caution and blocked the intersection of 9th and North Penn Avenue. As police arrived, the man was outside the house, sitting in a car. He was soon taken to Mercy Hospital.
Police recovered a Remington shot gun and ran a background check on the weapon. They took it for safekeeping.
