KARACHI, PAKISTAN – The Pakistani Taliban attacked an airport in Karachi, killing at least 30 people on Sunday.
Bomb blasts, gunshots, rained down as armed militants stormed Pakistan’s largest airport. It was reported that “well-armed” Taliban tried to hijack an airplane. The Taliban later said the attack was revenge for a drone strike that killed one of its leaders.
The US State Department said that the Pakistani people face violent assaults from numerous groups. On the same day as the airport attack, 30 Shia pilgrims were murdered in Balochistan, “the latest innocent victims of sectarian violence,” a spokesperson said.
Just 14 hours after the armed attack by Pakistani Taliban, the Karachi airport reopened for business
