ARDEN HILLS, MN – On Thursday, May 29, 2014, at approximately 9:40 pm, a Ramsey County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the area of Willow Lake Boulevard and Labore Road, Vadnais Heights. When the Deputy activated emergency lights and siren, the suspect vehicle increased speed and fled southbound on Labore Road.
While attempting to catch up to the suspect vehicle, the squad car left the roadway and struck a commercial building in the 3400 block of Willow Lake Boulevard. A natural gas line ruptured and a fire ignited, which the Vadnais Heights Fire Department was able to contain to a limited area of the building. The fire was extinguished when Xcel Energy shutoff the main gas line. No one was in the building at the time of the crash. The Deputy was able to get out of the vehicle unassisted, not visibly injured, and transported to a local hospital for examination.
Following standard procedure, this incident remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
