AMES – Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg has done it again. Hoiberg announced Monday that Iowa State has signed Oregon State transfer Hallice Cooke (HAL-us). Cooke, a Pac-12 All-Freshman Honorable Mention selection, will redshirt the 2014-15 season per NCAA transfer rules.

“Hallice is a player that will fit our system and what we want to do as a basketball team well,” Hoiberg said. “He is a versatile guard that shoots the ball at a very high percentage. To shoot better than 45 percent from behind the arc as a freshman, while making more than 40 threes, is impressive and we look forward to him joining our program.”

The 6-3 guard joins the Cyclones after averaging 8.2 points and hitting 45.6 percent of his three-point attempts, which was second in the Pac-12, as a freshman for the Beavers. Cooke, a Union City, New Jersey, native, started the final 18 games for Oregon State, finishing the season with 41 three-pointers, the fourth most by a freshman in school history. He tallied double-figure scoring in 11 games, including a career-high 23 points against Radford in the final game of the season.

Cooke, who played for the Sports U AAU program with current Cyclone Dustin Hogue, also averaged 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He played high school basketball for national powerhouse St. Anthony High School under legendary coach Bob Hurley, Sr.

Cooke is looking forward to joining the Cyclones.

“I am excited to be a part of the Iowa State program,” Cooke said. “Coach Hoiberg puts his players in a position to be successful. The style he coaches them to play, spreading the court and allowing players to make plays, is exactly what I had in mind when I started looking at programs after deciding to transfer. The opportunity to come into a program that is a proven winner and one that will compete for championships is something I look forward to. I can’t wait to get on campus and start working with my new teammates.”

Cooke joins fall signee and top-100 guard Clayton Custer (Overland Park, Kan.) and UNLV transfer Bryce Dejean-Jones as newcomers next fall.
