RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – A Clear Lake man who just days ago was in court to be sentenced on a plea deal related to felony charges crashed his car late Wednesday night and left the scene, leading to his arrest.
Benjamin James Frederick, age 32, was arrested Wednesday night at about 8:00 PM north of Clear Lake, at Fir Avenue and 310th Street after he crashed his car in a ditch. Cerro Gordo deputies were called to the scene to investigate, and discovered that Frederick had fled the scene. A short time later, deputies located Frederick walking, and he was arrested for leaving the scene of a property damage accident and reckless driving.
Frederick is still in the Cerro Gordo County Jail, held on $300 cash or surety bond.
On Tuesday, April 29, Judge Dedra Schroeder sentenced Frederick to a ten year suspended prison sentence, a suspended $1,000 fine, three years of probation and two days in jail in a plea deal related to charges of felony C burglary, domestic assault and violating a no-contact order. The charge of assault while participating in felony was thrown out as part of the plea deal. Frederick was assessed $5,920.00 in court costs and fees.
In addition, Frederick is awaiting a June 3, 2014 jury trial on a charge of felony D second degree theft and fourth degree theft.
