IRVING, Texas – The Iowa State men’s basketball team will host Arkansas on Dec. 4, 2014 in the second season of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, announced today by the Big 12 Conference.
This season’s challenge will be played Dec. 3-6 with ESPN providing coverage of all 10 games on its networks. Additional components of the event, including start times and network information, will be announced at a later date.
Iowa State and Arkansas have met four times, with the Cyclones owning a 3-1 edge in the all-time series. The last meeting between the two schools was in 1999, with ISU defeating the Razorbacks, 77-71, in the Big Island Invitational.
The Cyclones return three starters from last season’s Sweet 16 team that finished 28-8 and won the Big 12 Tournament title.
Arkansas went 22-12 overall and advanced to the second round of the NIT. The Razorbacks also return three starters, including leading scorer Rashad Madden (12.7 ppg).
The Cyclones beat Auburn, 99-70, in the inaugural challenge last season at Hilton Coliseum. Iowa State is 5-4 all-time in challenge games (2-0 vs. Oregon State, 0-2 vs. California, 1-0 vs. Auburn).
