LOS ANGELES — David Humphries, a two-time All-American at Northern Iowa Area Community College, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Loyola Marymount University men’s basketball program starting in the 2014-15 season, announced Head Coach Mike Dunlap on Monday.
Humphries, a 6-4, 210-pound native of Adelaide, Australia, made history this past season, becoming NIACC’s first men’s basketball two-time all-American. He was selected to the NJCAA Division II third-team all-American team after being a first-team selection as a freshman.
“David is an older player that has already established a public record of acclaim,” said Dunlap. “He had two very successful seasons for NIACC, gaining valuable experience while leading his team to the postseason. With his acclaim, he was able to play in all-star games, gaining even more experience against top players. He is an important addition to our organization. We are excited to have him.”
In his two-year career, Humphries scored 1,190 career points (3rd on school’s all-time list) and had 460 rebounds (12th on school’s career list), 216 assists (11th on school’s all-time list) and 132 3-point goals (5th on school’s all-time list). Humphries had two career triple-doubles and 18 career double-doubles.
As a sophomore, he averaged 21.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game to lead NIACC, which was 21-12 in 2013-14. He also had 96 assists and 60 steals. In his junior season, he averaged 20.6 points per contest, leading the ICCAC and 7.8 rebounds, second in the league. He finished with 577 points and 217 rebounds, leading team to 19-12 record.

This past season, Humphries set his career-highs in points (38) and rebounds (18) while tying his career-best in assists (10).
Humphries joins Devin Wyatt, a 6-7 forward of De Soto High School in De Soto, Tex., in joining the Lions in the Fall of 2014. Wyatt helped De Soto to a 31-4 overall record and a national ranking of No. 22. They were ranked No. 4 in the state of Texas.
