MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday recognized a report from a consulting firm that recommends a major overhaul to the county’s MIS department, and approved those changes on a 3-0 vote.

The Board of Supervisors accepted an Organizational and Technology Assessment prepared by McGladrey, Inc. consulting at their meeting Tuesday morning. The county’s Management Information Systems Steering Committee asked the Board of Supervisors to have such an assessment prepared last October.

During today’s meeting the Board voted to accept the assessment and delegated authority for management of the MIS department to the Steering Committee. The steering committee will appoint a superintendent for day-to-day management of the department as well as recommending the procurement of an outside entity to serve as chief information officer for the county. The assessment recommends elimination of the MIS Director position.

The next steps include development of a charter by the MIS Steering Committee, preparation and adoption of new job descriptions for certain positions recommended by the report, contracting for chief information officer services, and adoption of a technology action plan.
