MASON CITY – A man who served 21 months in an Iowa prison after numerous encounters with police and criminal charges was cited over the weekend for criminal mischief.

Jared Kropf was, according to reports, with a group of young men Saturday night in a North End neighborhood, armed with various heavy tools and / or baseball bats. Police were called to the 000 block of 14th Street NW following a verbal altercation at a residence there between the men and residents. After an investigation by police, Jared Kropf was accused of throwing a hand tool through a house window at the above location. He was charged with 5th degree criminal mischief.

Iowa prison officials told NIT that the 24-year-old Kropf was admitted to prison on July 11, 2012 and paroled on April 17, 2014. He had been sentenced on a charge of felony D willful injury, stemming from an incident where Kropf and group of men attacked two other Mason City men with baseball bats at the 500 block of 8th Street SE in Mason City. Jay Barrientes and Tony Walker were transported to Mercy Hospital for serious injuries received during that incident.

Court records show Kropf – who now claims to live in Ames – is no stranger to the legal system with convictions for dealing marijuana, assault on a peace officer with a weapon, possession of cocaine, attempted burglary, 2nd degree criminal mischief, trespass with injury / damage, and voluntary absence escape, in addition to numerous probation and parole violations.
