MASON CITY – Cerro Gordo County Supervisors on Monday approved $10,000 for the RAGBRAI stop-over coming to Mason City this summer.
Mason City Mayor Eric Bookmeyer and council member Jean Marinos were in attendance at the Board of Supervisors meeting Monday morning to ask for assistance promoting the city’s RAGBRAI celebrations. Supervisor Jay Urhdal was vocal in his support of approving the payment, holding up pictures from a previous concert held for RAGBRAI in another Iowa city, believed to be Cedar Rapids. Urdahl also commented that the downtown businesses deserved payback for their investment in upgrading the cityscape.
The Supervisors voted to grant the city $10,000 of Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) fund money to help promote Mason City’s RAGBRAI stop-over.
The funds were not earmarked for a specific purpose other than to promote RAGBRAI in Mason City or to be spent generally on expenses for event.
