PENSACOLA, FL – A Pensacola man was arrested in April after an investigation determined he repeatedly struck an 18-month-old child.
Corderall L. Silas, 27, no permanent address, was charged with cruelty toward a child.
Just before 10 a.m. today, police were dispatched to PensacolaVillage, 500 E. Fairfield Dr., after receiving a call that a young child had bruises on his head.
Detective Shannan Briarton said the child’s 28-year-old mother told police she had left her 18-month-old son with Silas on Sunday and went to get him this morning.
When the mother arrived in the apartment where Silas was staying, she saw him sleeping on the couch with the child sleeping on his chest. The mother pulled a blanket off the child and saw fresh bruising on his face, neck and chest. She then confronted Silas and he fled the apartment.
A 23-year-old woman told police that she was awakened late last night by the child crying. She said she heard Silas yelling at the child to “shut up” and then heard slapping noises.
Police found Silas this morning in one of the apartments at PensacolaVillage.
The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment of head injuries; his injuries are not considered life-threatening, Briarton said.
