Steven Gettel will lead Iowa School for the Deaf and Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School

COUNCIL BLUFFS – The Board of Regents announced today the selection of Steven J. Gettel to serve as Superintendent of the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, and the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton. He is scheduled to begin his duties on August 1, 2014.

Mr. Gettel currently serves as Superintendent of the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind, a position he has held since 2001. He has extensive experience in the education of deaf and blind students. He received his Master’s of Education in Deaf Education from Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Oregon, and he holds Administrative Endorsements from the University of Montana.

“I am very honored and excited to be selected by the Regents for this opportunity,” said Gettel. “Iowa has a strong reputation in its School for the Deaf and its state outreach services for the blind and visually impaired. I look forward to serving in this leadership capacity.”

“Steve Gettel will bring to Iowa a strong combination of leadership skills in the education of our students at both the School for the Deaf and the Braille School,” said Board of Regents President Bruce Rastetter. “We look forward to working with him.”
