NIACC’s Thompson verbally commits to Hastings College

MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore Lateeka Thompson has verbally committed to play basketball next season at Hastings College, an NAIA school in Hastings, Neb.

Thompson, a 5 foot, 7 inch guard from Burnsville, Minn., averaged 12.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game during her sophomore season as NIACC placed third at the NJCAA Division II tournament.

Thompson, an NJCAA Division II second-team all-American, also compiled 97 assists and 102 steals during her sophomore season.

Thompson is the only player in school history to rank in the career top 10 in four categories. She ranks eighth in points (880), fifth in rebounds (375), eighth in assists (168) and third in steals (176).

Hastings College is a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Lady Broncos were 28-6 overal l, 16-4 in the league and qualified for the national tournament in the 2013-14 season. The Lady Broncos bowed out in the national quarterfinals with a 70-52 loss to Davenport University under second-year coach Carrie Hofstetter.

Thompson is the fifth player from NIACC’s record-breaking team to verbally commit to a four-year school. Sophomore Chelsey Jacox signed with the University of San Francisco, freshman Cortni Rush signed with Drake University, sophomore Morgan Walker signed with Northwest Missouri State and sophomore Emily Bell signed with Grand View University.
