NIT – Iowa was one of eleven states that generated electricity from nonhydro renewables at double the U.S. average in 2013.
According to the Energy Information Administration’s Electric Power Monthly report, Iowa got more than 25% of its net electricity from wind generation last year. South Dakota did the same. Nearly all other states with high proportions of renewable electricity generation relied primarily on wind power. Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Colorado generated 12%-20% of their power from wind resources.
Maine led all states by generating 32% of its electricity from nonhydro renewables- primarily biomass generation by the wood products industry. The state had one-fourth of its net electric generation come from biomass resources.
The largest amount of nonhydroelectric renewable power was generated in Texas, with California a close second.
About 6.2% of total U.S. electricity supplies in 2013 were generated from nonhydro renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal, up from 5.4% in 2012.

Alot of elected public servants and their bosses from windy companies are getting fat off the taxpayers. The people living the good life now is anyone who draws their fat cat earnings and benefits from the private sector. Remember that any government city county state or federal produces NOTHING and therefore generate no income and depends on the welfare check they get from taxpayer and kickbacks from mucho rich corps.

Out west the power company’s are starting to charge solar and wind suppliers a fee for using their transmission lines. They already have the law in Arizona and are passing it in Oklahoma. I have not seen my utility’s come down a dime and my taxes subsidize it.

@Bro-take away the subsidy and see how fast it goes under. They cost way to much to manufacture and they can’t sell them for enough to off set their cost. They cut the subsidy a couple of years ago and all of the windmill manufactures and the shipping yard in Manly all almost went out of business and the only thing that save them was another tax subsidy. How is that smart guy. Get your facts straight before you shoot off your mouth. Solar is a different deal as they have gotten the cost…
@Bro-to finish off, they have gotten the cost down on solar to the point it is workable. The problem with solar is electricity storage and it doesn’t work anywhere near as good up here where the sun is not as high and because of the cloud cover we get most of the year. It works well in the west and south but the power company’s are starting apply user fees for transmission usage and are starting to drive up the cost. They see their power base going away and profits coming down.
I don’t always agree with what LVS posts, but he is exactly correct on this one. As more wind and solar is added to the system, electric costs will continue to go up.
And what type of energy does not have taxpayer subsidies?

Any construction company that isn’t taking into consideration thermal mass walls, south facing solar glazing, photovoltaics, wind generators, and recycled waste water processing are a bunch of Energy Company Lackeys.
