New Hampshire keeps death penalty

NIT – The New Hampshire Senate failed to abolish the death penalty Thursday morning after a tie vote on a bill that would have done away with capitol punishment in this New England state.

The New Hampshire Senate voted 12-12 on a bill to repeal the death penalty. The tie vote leaves the death penalty in place.  The New Hampshire House had passed the bill previously.  Democratic Governor Maggie Hassan, indicated she was ready to sign.

Eighteen states have abolished the death penalty.  New Hampshire has one person on death row.
