DES MOINES – Cortni Rush of North Iowa Area Community College has signed a national letter of intent with the Drake University women’s basketball program for the 2014-15 season, head coach Jennie Baranczyk announced Wednesday, April 16.

“We are so excited to add Cortni to the Drake family,” said Baranczyk. “She brings tremendous versatility and has won at both the high school and junior college levels. My favorite thing about her is she is a team first player that will do anything asked and at any position we need her at. She is a hard-nosed, blue collar, roll up her sleeves, get to work typical Iowa player.”

Rush, from Mason City, Iowa, was a first-team All-National Junior College Athletic Association Region XI selection and a third-team NJCAA Division II All-American in her one season at NIACC. She helped the Trojans advance to the semifinals of the 2014 NJCAA Division II tournament and a 34-3 overall record.

“We are thrilled for Cortni to have this opportunity at Drake both athletically and academically,” said Rush’s junior college head coach Kelli Terrell. “She is one of the hardest working kids I have ever come across and helped us to great success. I know she is going to do the same at Drake.”

A 5-10 guard, Rush was a four-year letterwinner for Mason City High School. She was named third team all-state her senior season as the Mohawks advanced to the semifinals of the Iowa Class 5A Girls High School Basketball state tournament. She averaged 10.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game her senior year. A talented, multi-sport athlete she lettered four years in softball and track and field.
