AMES – April 14, 2014 – As part of the 2014 Iowa Aviation Conference, the Iowa Department of Transportation and Iowa Public Airports Association welcome Al Haynes, captain of United Airlines Flight 232 that crashed at the Sioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City 25 years ago.
Haynes presentation, Teamwork in Crisis, the Story of Flight 232, will be held April 22, at 7 p.m. at the West Des Moines Sheraton, 1800 50th St. The session is free and open to the public. First responders are especially encouraged to attend to learn about factors that attributed to high survival rates from the accident, including emergency response.

About United Airlines Flight 232
Do you remember where you were 25 years ago when the world watched the gripping video of the crash of United Airlines Flight 232? The flight was scheduled from Stapleton International Airport in Denver to O’Hare International Airport in Chicago when the DC-10 suffered a catastrophic failure of its tail-mounted engine, leading to the loss of all flight controls.
The plane crash landed at the Sioux Gateway Airport, killing 112 people. Miraculously184 people, including pilot Al Haynes, survived the crash. Haynes has been widely credited for his efforts in piloting the damaged aircraft and minimizing the loss of life.
