Fort Hood shooting victims honored at memorial ceremony

FORT HOOD, Texas – A memorial service for Sgt. 1st Class Daniel M. Ferguson, Staff Sgt. Carlos A. Lazaney-Rodriguez, and Sgt. Timothy W. Owens, who were killed in the April 2 shooting tragedy on Fort Hood, was held in front of the III Corps headquarters building April 9.

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama attended the event, along with the victims’ family members, survivors of the shooting, and many other dignitaries including the Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Raymond T. Odierno and Secretary of the Army John McHugh.

More than 1,000 Soldiers crowded onto the III Corps parade field and waited for hours in the hot sun to be a part of the ceremony.
