MASON CITY – A Twenty-eight year run by a well-known Mason City cookie store will come to an abrupt end in just a few weeks.
The Cookies, Etc. store in Southbridge Mall is calling it quits and has announced it will close at the end of April. It has been open practically since the mall opened in 1985.
All of the approximately 10 employees have been offered positions at the Clear Lake store. Many of the employees at the Mason City location are high school students.
An employee at the store told NIT Tuesday that she will be taking the job in Clear Lake and isn’t sure that the others will follow.
She said that the mall is so slow that there is barely any foot traffic near the cookie store. Much of the mall’s food court is barren at this time. Hopefully, she said, people from Mason City will visit the Clear Lake Cookies, Etc. store and still place orders for celebration cookies and other made-to-order items that have been so popular over the years.
Cookies Etc. offers six flavors Of cookies baked fresh daily: Chocolate chocolate chip, Pecan chocolate chip, Chocolate chip, Oatmeal raisin, Monster and Sugar as well as soft drinks. The Clear Lake store also offers ice cream.
One Mason City resident at the mall said “I’ll miss that place. It’s sad it’s going away.”
