Police seek accused domestic abuser who skipped his jury trial this week

MASON CITY – A man accused of domestic assault is now wanted by police after failing to show up Tuesday for trial.

Bryon Sletton, age 48, failed to show up in Cerro Gordo county district court on April 1 for his jury trial on two charges of domestic assault. According to records and sources close to the alleged victim, despite the fact that strangulation was involved in the alleged crime, Sletten was charged only with an aggravated misdemeanor.

However, Sletton’s alleged victim suffered “swelling in neck muscle, bruising various places on body (shoulder, elbow, knees, forearms), muscle tear of previous surgical incision in chest.” The source also said that when the victim called her regular physician, “they directed (her) to the ER.”

In the meantime, as her alleged attacker is roaming the streets, the alleged victim told NIT she is worried about where Sletton is and just wants him behind bars.

She told NIT that courthouse personnel “called me right before I was headed out the door [to go to court Tuesday, and testify] and said ‘sorry trial cancelled he did not show'”.
