NIT – “Quite simply, it’s time to allow doctors and patients to use medical marijuana if they determine it is the best course of treatment.”
Those were just some of the words uttered by out-going Iowa Republican Party Chairman AJ Spiker in an opinion piece published Saturday in the Des Moines Register.
The Republican party – and to a lesser extent, Democrats – has fought the legalization of marijuana for years, despite a strong majority of the public who, in polls, say they want it at least made available for medical purposes and almost as often, for recreational use.
Admitting that he “didn’t fully understand the issue”, Spiker said that “there is no wrong in admitting we’ve made a mistake. The wrong exists in knowing we’ve made a mistake and refusing to admit it.
“I’ve never smoked marijuana,” Spiker continued, and “I’ve never gone to medical school either. I have no knowledge to tell a doctor or a cancer patient which treatments they should use and which should be forbidden.
“It is time to allow the use of medical marijuana,” Spiker concluded.

These same people that are thinking of legalizing medical pot are also thinking of limiting magazines for weapons to 7 rounds, they are not right in the head, HF163.
@maybe-I am going to disagree with you on the medical marijuana. To me it is no different than any of the other drugs you can get with a prescription. Some help with some things and some with others. If medical marijuana helps some people relieve the pain then I am for it. Recreational I am against and always will be. The states that have passed it are already having hell controlling the pot heads that think they can drive or work after using it.
You miss understood my statement, sure I used medical pot as an example but my point was these same people are trying to pass the same laws that new York has with the magazine limits.
The only thing is that pot would be better for me than all the pain meds. I am a disabiled veteran.
Many vets would like to use it for PTSD.

This is a respectable position. Proves the issue is beyond partisan politics. Kudos to this man for standing up for the truth.
