SAN ANTONIO – The road to the Sweet 16 just got tougher for the Iowa State Cyclones.

The Cyclones will be without third-team All-Big 12 pick Georges Niang against North Carolina on Sunday.  Niang suffered a broken bone in his right foot in the second half of Friday’s win against North Carolina Central. Niang scored 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting prior to the injury. He had averaged 20.4 points in the last five games.

ISU will face North Carolina (24-9) Saturday in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. It is ISU’s third consecutive trip to the round of 32. The game will be televised by CBS with tipoff at 4:15 PM.

Iowa State and North Carolina will be meeting for the third time. UNC holds a 3-0 edge in the all-time series, with the last meeting coming in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament (92-65).  Fred Hoiberg’s final game as a Cyclone was in the 1995 NCAA Tournament in Tallahassee. He scored 12 points in 39 minutes in that game.
