McDonald’s blames slowing sales on bad weather

Too much snow?

NIT – Today, McDonald’s released not-so-good sales numbers for February, and blamed the tough winter for the plummet.

This winter was widely recognized as one of the ten worst ever recorded; in Iowa, state officials said it was the ninth-worst of all-time.  Businesses all over the nation in all walks of life have struggled through the onslaught of snow, ice, wind and blizzards.

McDonald’s said its US sales dropped 1.4% last month, blaming the loss on “challenging industry dynamics and severe winter weather.”

McDonald’s said its priorities are optimizing its menu, “modernizing the customer experience and broadening accessibility to Brand McDonald’s.”

McDonald’s President and Chief Executive Officer Don Thompson said “We are intent on improving our business performance by thoughtfully evolving our approach to ensure that we are delivering the most compelling value, service and convenience to each of the approximately 70 million customers who choose McDonald’s each day.”

McDonald’s sales rose slightly in Europe.

Last month, the king of fast food announced the opening of its first restaurant in Vietnam, which also marks the 10,000th restaurant for the chain in the Asia, Pacific, Middle East, and Africa region.
