MASON CITY – A local man who has been in the news a number of times in recent months for various crimes has upped the ante, police say, this time using a knife to slash a man across the face during a Sunday morning fight in the middle of the Cultural Crescent.
Police said early Monday that arrest warrants have been issued for 23-year-old Jordan Jerome Holmes in connection with an assault reported at around 2 AM at Federal Avenue and State Street in downtown Mason City. Officers were called to that location after a caller reported several cars stopping there and people exiting the cars and screaming at each other. During the ensuing brawl, a man was cut with a knife. Witnesses told investigating officers that Holmes had been assaulting a woman by grabbing her inappropriately. When other persons who were then at the scene intervened, Holmes produced a knife and started to wave it around. Holmes then slashed a man across his face with the knife and fled the scene.
The injured man is 32 years old and from Des Moines; his name was not released by police. He was transported to Mercy Hospital by private vehicle after receiving treatment from Mason City fire medics at the scene. The female victim, age 21 from Ames, was not injured.
UPDATED: Jordan Holmes was located by Mason City police Monday at the 1700 block of South Delaware Avenue and then booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail at 8:44 PM Monday. He is charged with felony willful injury and misdemeanor domestic assault and fold on $10,000 cash-only bond.
Holmes was in trouble last November for another fight at almost the same location. He was taken into custody and charged with interference with official acts, aggravated public intoxication, and assault on a peace officer. He later pleaded guilty.
