AMES – The Iowa State women’s basketball team (20-9, 9-9 Big 12) lost by a score of 70-54 to No. 9 Baylor (26-4, 16-2 Big 12) Tuesday evening. The loss is Iowa State’s first on senior night since 2001-02 (Baylor).
The Cyclones started off slow offensively, shooting just 2-13 to start the game, and were pitted in an early 11-1 hole. Things started heating up after a three-pointer from Brynn Williamson, and Iowa State spread the ball around in the first. Williamson led the team with six points in the first stanza, with Nikki Moody, Seanna Johnson and Hallie Christofferson each tacking on five of their own. The Cyclones were able to narrow the margin to seven on a 5-0 run from Christofferson and maintained that margin heading into the intermission.
Iowa State came out firing in the second, trading baskets with the Lady Bears in a stretch that was highlighted by two three-pointers from Moody in the first four minutes of the half. The squad narrowed the deficit to five, but was unable to come any closer. The Cyclones struggled to protect the ball, turning it over 14 times in the game.
Moody and Christofferson were the only Cyclones to score in double figures, with 17 and 14, respectively. Iowa State couldn’t find an answer for Baylor freshman Nina Davis, who scored 26 points on the evening to lead all scorers.
Nikki Moody led the Cyclones in scoring with 17 points, while dishing 5 assists and grabbing 5 rebounds. Tonight was Moody’s sixth game this season with 10+ points, 5+ assists and 5+ rebounds.
