Dashboard dope seized by cops

Calexico, Calif., — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Calexico downtown port of entry Tuesday discovered approximately $500,000 worth of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine concealed inside the dashboard of a vehicle.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on February 12, CBP officers encountered a 1988 Jeep Wrangler, driven by a 22-year-old male U.S. citizen, and referred the driver and the vehicle for in-depth examination.

During the inspection, a CBP detector dog alerted to the vehicle’s dashboard. An intensive search revealed 18 wrapped packages containing three pounds of cocaine, 11 pounds of heroin, and more than 19 pounds of methamphetamine located in a space behind the Jeep’s glove compartment.

The cocaine has an estimated street value of almost $31,000, the heroin is valued at approximately $100,000, and the methamphetamine is worth about $367,000.

The driver, a resident of Santa Maria, Calif., was arrested and turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations agents for further processing.

CBP seized the vehicle and narcotics.
