AMES – Ames police dealt with a suicidal subject Sunday night at a west side business and were bale to talk the man into surrendering.

“We had a tense situation Sunday night that was resolved without anyone being hurt,” Ames police said Modany. “We appreciate the help from the Story County Sheriff’s Office for helping us on scene and to the ISU Police Department for taking our calls for service while we were all tied up. Great job to all, this is exactly how we like these things to turn out.”

Ames police reported after the incident at Iceberg Refrigeration, located at the 3600 block of Lincoln Way, that they were “happy to report the man gave up after speaking with negotiators. No injuries to anyone involved.”  The incident took place at about 6:45 PM Sunday.

The Des Moines Register reported that no charges would be filed against the man.

According to the Iowa State Daily, there was about two hours of negotiations.  Ames police investigator Geoff Huff told the Daily that “At this point, we’ll just have to evaluate where he’s at and figure out what we need to do with him next, which is hard to say right now.”
