Wrestling: Gadson ranked no. 1 in latest InterMat poll

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State All-American Kyven Gadson was named the top-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds for the first time in his career this morning, when InterMat released its latest Division I individual rankings.

The junior from Waterloo, Iowa, is 19-2 overall and 11-0 in dual contest this season. He has won 26-straight dual matches dating back to Nov. 25, 2012.

Gadson is second on the team falls in this season (6) and dual takedowns (26). He is 4-2 vs. ranked opponents, featuring wins over No. 2 J’Den Cox of Missouri and No. 5 Travis Rutt of Oklahoma.

The reigning Big 12 champion recently netted his 49th career win at instate rival No. 5 UNI, earning an 11-3 major decision over Basil Minto. It was Gadson’s first collegiate dual match in his hometown.

Gadson and the Cyclones head east this weekend to compete at the NWCA National Duals in Columbus, Ohio. Seven of the top-10 nationally ranked wrestlers, including Gadson, will be competing in the dual tournament.
