Iowa man who rammed police cars turns himself in

ATLANTIC, IA – An Iowa man wanted after a three county police pursuit in January in which he rammed several police squad cars has turned himself in to face charges.

On January 30, 2014, Johnathan Tyler McAlpin, 21, of Red Oak, IA, turned himself in at the Cass County Jail on a Cass County Sheriff’s Office warrant for Eluding (D Felony), OWI 1st Offense (Serious), and Driving Under Suspension (Simple). McAlpin was booked and released on his own recognizance later that day.

According to police, on January 20, 2014, at 9:28 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on a 2002 Chevy pickup on 550th Street in Griswold. A pursuit began when the driver of the vehicle refused to stop. The chase continued through Montgomery County into Page County where the vehicle wrecked and two subjects were apprehended and taken into custody.

As a result of the chase, Montgomery County charged the driver of the vehicle, Johnathan Tyler McAlpin, 21, of Red Oak, IA, with Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree (D Felony) and Assault with a Deadly Weapon upon a Peace Officer (D Felony) as the result of the alleged ramming of a police cruiser with the pursued vehicle. Two cruisers were also rammed in Page County. Page County charged McAlpin with two counts of Assault with Intent to Cause Serious Injury (D Felonies), Felony Eluding, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree (C Felony), Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree (D Felony), and OWI 1st Offense (Serious).

A passenger in the vehicle, Alexandra Marie Sindt, 22, of Griswold, is charged in Page County with Interference with Official Acts (Simple Misdemeanor). Traffic violations are forthcoming in Cass County in this incident.
