NIACC basketball teams play at DMACC Saturday

niacc_trojans_logoBOONE – The No. 2 NIACC women’s basketball team (19-2 overall, 8-0 in the ICCAC) returns to action Saturday at DMACC in an ICCAC contest.

Game time is set for 1 p.m.

NIACC topped No. 10 Iowa Central 94-87 for its 13th straight regular season conference victory on Jan. 25. Sophomore Chelsey Jacox led the Lady Trojans with a season-high 31 points with seven assists, six rebounds and three steals.

NIACC stopped DMACC 97-68 in its conference opener at home on Nov. 20. Sophomore Chelsey Jacox led the Lady Trojans with 23 points and freshman Cortni Rush scored 20 points, including 6 3-point goals.

DMACC (12-10, 4-4) was led by Taryn Wicks with 24 points.

For the record: NIACC averages 96.2 points per game, which leads all NJCAA Division II teams. The Lady Trojans leads the nation with 222 3-point goals, ranks second in assists per game (19.6) and steals per game (16.5) and ranks sixth in free-throw percentage (70.3 percent).

Meanwhile, the NIACC men’s basketball team (17-5 overall, 5-2 in the ICCAC) returns to action Saturday at DMACC, as well.

Game time is set for 3 p.m.

NIACC topped Iowa Central 84-79 for its sixth straight win and fifth straight in the conference after starting league play 0-2 on Jan. 25. Freshman Al Davis scored a career-high 24 points, sophomore David Humphries scored 21 points and sophomore Matthew Don scored 16 points.

The last time the NIACC men won five in a row in the league was the 1989-90 season when the Trojans also put together a five-game league win streak.

DMACC (19-4, 5-2), NIACC and Kirkwood (14-6, 5-2) are all tied for first place in the league after the first round of league contests.

DMACC stopped NIACC 83-71 on Nov. 20 in the conference opener for both teams. David Humphries led NIACC with 22 points and Brandon Nazione led the Bears with 22 points.
