CHARLES CITY – A convicted felon refused to stop his vehicle for a Charles City police officer earlier this week and was eventually caught and arrested.
According to police, on January 25th, just before 2:00 AM, police were able to stop 32-year-old Curtis Lee Wordes of Elma, Iowa, after Wordes refused a traffic stop at the intersection of Main and Court Streets and fled. He was charged with eluding law enforcement, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, interference with official acts, failure to use headlamps, failure to obey a stop sign, no insurance, no seat belt and no registration.
Wordes has since posted bond and been released from jail, pending a court date.
Wordes plead guilty to domestic violence and felony willful injury in recent years as well as assault on a peace officer and felony theft. He hasn’t paid all his fines and fees owed to the Iowa courts in those cases except one, in which he overpaid.
