WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

What’s next: The No. 2 NIACC women’s basketball team (18-2 overall, 7-0 in the ICCAC) returns to action Saturdya at DMACC in an ICCAC contest. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

Last time out: NIACC topped No. 10 Iowa Central 94-87 for its 11th straight home victory. Sophomore Chelsey Jacox led the Lady Trojans with a season-high 31 points with seven assists, six rebounds and three steals.

For the record: NIACC averages 96.2 points per game, which leads all NJCAA Division II teams. The Lady Trojans leads the nation with 222 3-point goals, ranks second in assists per game (19.6) and steals per game (16.5) and ranks sixth in free-throw percentage (70.3 percent).

Lady Trojan tidbits: Sophomore Chelsey Jacox averages 21.2 points per game (2nd in ICCAC) and has 107 assists (1st in ICCAC) and 52 steals (3rd in ICCAC) … Freshman Cortni Rush 58 steals (1st in ICCAC) and 44 3-point goals (4th in ICCAC) … Sophomore Lateeka Thompson has 55 steals (2nd in ICCAC) … Sophomore Emily Bell has 46 3-point goals (2nd in ICCAC) … Sophomore Kadejah Young has 42 3-point goals (5th in ICCAC).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

What’s next: The NIACC men’s basketball team (17-5 overall, 5-2 in the ICCAC) returns to action Saturday at DMACC. Game time is set for 3 p.m.

Last time out: NIACC topped Iowa Central 84-79 for its fifth straight conference victory. Freshman Al Davis scored a career-high 24 points, sophomore David Humphries scored 21 points and sophomore Matthew Don scored 16 points.

For the record: NIACC averages 89.0 points per game, which ranks 17th among NJCAA Division II teams. The Trojans have 183 3-point goals (5th in NJCAA Division II) … Humphries averages 23.2 points per game, which ranks 18th among NJCAA Division II players and is tied for second in the ICCAC.

Trojan tidbits: Humphries averages 8.4 rebounds per game (tied for 2nd in ICCAC) and leads the league with 49 steals … Sophomore Matthew Don averages 8.4 rebounds per game (tied for 2nd in ICCAC) and ranks 4th in the league with 19 blocked shots … Freshman Al Davis leads the ICCAC with 105 assists and ranks second with 44 steals … Sophomore Sam Skogen has 78 assists (4th in ICCAC) and 30 steals (6th in ICCAC).

WRESTLING

What’s next: The No. 7 NIACC wrestling team (7-2 in duals) returns to action Thursday in a dual meet at Iowa Lakes in Spencer. The Trojans host Iowa Central in a dual meet on Friday.

Last time out: NIACC went 2-1 at the regional duals in Rochester, Minn. The Trojans topped Itasca 46-12 and Ridgewater College 42-9 and dropped a 25-22 decision to the Augsburg junior varsity.

For the record: Freshman Yoanse Mejias (157 pounds) is 26-2; sophomore Shakheim Chapman (197) is 16-2 and freshman Nosomy Pozo (149) is 15-2.

INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

What’s next: The NIACC track and field teams return to action Saturday at the Minnesota State Multi-Open in Mankato, Minn..

Last time out: The NIACC men’s track and field team won the Cornell Invitational last Saturday in Mount Vernon and the Lady Trojans placed third. Freshman Deon Polk qualified for the men’s NJCAA national meet in the 60-meter dash (6.99 seconds) and Rellie Kaputin qualified for the women’s national meet in the high jump (5-3).

Kaputin has also qualified for nationals in the long jump (18-4 ¼) and the triple jump (37-1). Freshman Brilee McWilliams has also qualified for nationals in the shot put (43-5).

Also qualifying for nationals for the NIACC men are sophomore Alex Blomquist in the 1,000-meter run (2:38.62) and Will Hanson in the 60 hurdles (8.10).
