State of the Union Address set for tonight; will you watch?

WASHINGTON – President Obama will deliver his fifth State of the Union address tonight and offer his plan for 2014. The address will be televised on news channels, as well as in a
responsive format” on the White House website at 8 PM central time. According to the White House, the president has been preparing for the speech for weeks.

According to published reports, there are several issues the president is expected to touch upon in his speech, including health care and the Affordable Care Act, immigration, the wars in the Middle East, the gap between the rich and the poor, balancing the budget and the national debt and government monitoring of phone calls and emails of Americans.

Approximately 30 million Americans will watch the State of the Union Address.  The Republican Party response will be delivered shortly thereafter by three different politicians: Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington, Sen. Mike Lee of Utah for the Tea Party, and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.
