Treacherous travel conditions continue in North Iowa

MASON CITY – Bitter cold and high winds continue to make travel inadvisable in the North Iowa area Monday.

Cars and trucks were reported to be in ditches around the region, and some folks were literally snowed in, unable to leave their driveways. Tow trucks were not able to keep up with demand.

In one incident, at around 9:00 AM Monday, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was alerted that there was a semi jack-knifed across 300th Street (also known as B20), close to Pheasant Avenue.

The driver appeared to be coming out of the driveway of 16403 300th Street and turning East bound on 300th Street.

Due to the emergency teams being so busy with other calls from the blizzard, authorities were not able to respond to the incident until around 10:00 AM.

The responding officer said the the road would be closed from Highway 65 to Pheasant Avenue, since no traffic could get through.

The semi was put on a lengthy tow list.
