EVANSTON, IL – Iowa crushed Northwestern Saturday behind Gabe Olaseni’s 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The game was close in the first half, with Iowa taking a 6 point lead into the half.
Iowa began to pull away after the break, building a 20 point lead and beyond en route to the victory. The Hawkeyes improved to 16-4 overall and 5-2 in Big Ten play.
Olaseni played just 17 minutes in the game but they were efficient minutes, with at least one monster dunk, in racking up his third double-double of the season.
Mike Gesell tied his season high with 11 points and Roy Marble chipped in another 14.
Iowa’s 76 points are the most Northwestern has allowed since yielding 94 vs Iowa in Iowa City on Jan. 9.
Iowa may be the deepest team in the Big Ten, and its depth help put away the pesky Wildcats.
Freshman Peter Jok played sparingly and said after the game he is learning.
“Being a student of the game right now,” Jok said. “Learning a lot out here.”
Iowa pays Michigan State Tuesday in Iowa City.
