NIT – The Iowa GOP dug itself an embarrassing hole Friday night, prompting an apology from the party chairman.
The humiliation began Friday evening when the Iowa Republican Party allowed a post on its Facebook page that contained a graphic that showed flowchart that they said could be used to determine if a person is a racist or not a racist. Here is the flowchart, via a screen grab taken and published by the Daily Beast:
Later Friday evening, the following post was made to the Iowa GOP’s Facebook page, right after they removed the flowchart:
“Earlier tonight, a contractor of the Iowa GOP made a post referencing a discussion on race that the GOP believes was in bad taste and inappropriate. We apologize to those whom were offended, have removed the post and are ensuring it does not happen again. -Chairman AJ Spiker.”
The Iowa Democratic Party didn’t miss its chance to chime in, saying via social media “Tonight the Iowa GOP continued on with their party’s intolerance. This has no place in politics, period.”
The Des Moines Register reported Friday night a statement from Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Scott Brennan:
“Iowans have had enough of the intolerance, hate and divisiveness shared tonight on the Republican Party of Iowa’s Facebook. This sort of rhetoric – joke or not – has no place in politics, period. What we see here is another failed attempt at the GOP trying to rebrand themselves, and Iowans need to remember that this is the party of Terry Branstad, Chuck Grassley, and those who are trying to win the US Senate seat this fall.”
My perspective:
I am a registered Cynic and belong to the Cynic Party, so don’t get the idea I am a Republican, but:
The Republican Party is so not a ‘racist party’. This racism nonsense is nothing more than a distraction.
The Republican Party is by and large for an America that wants to provide opportunity so people can get ahead if one wants to work to get it.
This so called racist flow chart and the nonsense in the article focus’s one to think “Republicans” are racist because some loon posted something stupid like this flow chart. This bull is misleading and takes people off focusing on important issues like a bankrupt government and a job killing government.
Long ago I figured out that almost all the big shot local Republicans were as liberal and left wing as any Democrat I know. Any research at all on what they promote shows any logical individual that the local Republican’s are Democrats in disguise. It is a political sham and nothing but a hoax when these numskulls present themselves as Republicans. The Chamber of Commerce is a great example of what I speak.
Democrats are the biggest bunch of liars and the local Republi-crats are right in bed with the Dems.
Then heap on top a media that makes it’s living lying to the public, we got nothing.
This country is in huge trouble because of the nonsense printed in this article and all of the people who gobble this crap up as useful when it amounts to useless information.

As I am not a republican I think I can comment on this. I just finished watching Huckabee talking about this. He never said anything like what you are claiming. As far as the Uncle Sugar name I have heard that all my life and if you go to Texas you will hear it every day. The Democrats are the ones who push division and discrimination every single day. Listen to your president and you will hear him pull the race card almost every time he speaks. It is everyone else’s fault that his policy’s are crap. No one gives him a chance because he is black. The funny part is he is not even African American. He is an Arab. That doesn’t stop him from using it. The Republicans have their issues, but this isn’t one of them.

@Galactus-why would you say that. Just because I do not like illegal drugs or the people that push them. Any sane person would feel the same way. I do not agree with Republicans on a lot of issue and have stated that many times on here. Two of the big ones are abortion and the other is gay rights. While I do not support gay right I also would allow it. I believe in live and let live as long as it does not affect anyone else. I am not real big on religion and am absolutely against big government by either party. I also believe one gets what you work for and we should not let our taxes go to pay for people that are capable of working. Now, after saying that I really feel if someone really needs help we should be there to help. Does that make me a republican?? I don’t think so.

I can tell you all from personal experience, and this is my personal opinion, this Gabe Haugland kid is a joke and I wouldn’t trust him farther than I could throw him. I just wonder if he himself posted the flowchart. He is a GOP figurehead and known to make outlandish Facebook posts. Here is the background: I called this weasel at work early last November, to confront him, after he brazenly attacked me and other good people running for city council in Mason City. He claimed that I am “anti-job” when in fact, I am the only one fighting the corrupt EDC, the agency keeping the good jobs away from Mason City. His rant irked me so I called the liar up to give him a piece of my mind. Remember, the kid lives in Clear Lake, but works at FIRST CITIZENS BANK. The lady who answered the phone at the bank told me Gabe Haugland was in his office all morning, and his nasty Facebook page wall was full of attacks from that morning (he has since blocked his wall). When I got him on the phone, Gabe Haugland, who claims to be a “Christian” man, broke the 9th commandment and lied to me, telling me that he was not in his office when he made his attacks on Facebook, but was “in his car in the parking lot.” Picture this “party leader” sitting out in his car when he is supposed to be working, frantically pounding away on his keyboard, trying to influence a Mason City council race in a town where he does not even live. The kid is creepy, I would even say shady, and I certainly wouldn’t trust my money in that bank as long as he works there. I shudder to think of the millions of Mason City taxpayer dollars kept at First Citizens bank with Gabe Haugland employed there. It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if this kid is a closet racist. I DO NOT TRUST HIM.
PS: If you know Gabe Haugland, or do business with him at First Citizens Bank, ask him about the time (not long ago) he got in trouble at work and Eric Bookmeyer paid him a visit at the bank… and brought Gabe’s boss with him. That’s a great story.
@Matt-Thanks for the information. It is always nice to find out these things in case we need to deal with the guy. I have also heard some comments about the Democratic Chairman and how he passed information to the mayors group through another source. Dirty politics runs deep in North Iowa and I don’t see any changes thanks to voter apathy. I never though it made much difference locally to the Republicans or the Democrats who won on the council. I sure got a lesson this year. They had a chance to put in a decent mayor and a honest council that would have worked hard for the common man and they blew it because they were to damn lazy to get out and vote. Just my opinion of course.
