logo_iowa_state_cyclonesLUBBOCK, Texas – The Iowa State women’s basketball team (15-4, 4-4 Big 12) defeated Texas Tech (6-13, 0-8 Big 12) in overtime 85-76, Saturday night. All five starters scored in double figures for the Cyclones. Nikki Moody and Hallie Christofferson led the charge, scoring 20 points each.

The Cyclones struggled early, unable to get much going offensively. The squad quickly found itself trailing the Lady Raiders by 12 with just over 9 minutes remaining in the first half. Iowa State used a very balanced offensive attack in the first period, with Brynn Williamson leading the team with eight, while Moody, Fallon Ellis and Jadda Buckley each had seven. Despite the slow start, the Cyclones narrowed the deficit to 39-37 heading into halftime.

Iowa State came out fast in the second half, going on a 10-0 run after an early Texas Tech bucket and jumping out to a 47-42 lead. Both teams battled back and forth early in the second stanza, but the Cyclones would go cold from the field and were unable to make a field goal for nearly 6 minutes. With 3:50 to go, the Cyclones turned it on. Behind an 11-4 run, Iowa State clawed its way back to force overtime, tying the game at 72-72.

From there, Moody stole the spotlight, scoring the first five points for the Cyclones and eight total in the extra period. A three pointer and two more baskets from inside the arc sealed the deal for Iowa State.

Nikki Moody shined in overtime, scoring eight of the Cyclones’ 10 OT points. Moody finished the night with team-bests 20 points and six assists. Her six rebounds were second on the team, behind Christofferson’s 11.

Iowa State has hit a 3-pointer in an NCAA-record 600 straight games. All five starters (Moody, Christofferson, Jadda Buckley, Seanna Johnson and Brynn Williamson) scored in double figures, marking the first time this year the Cyclones have had five or more double-digit scorers and the fourth time with four or more.

Jadda Buckley has scored 10 or more points 10 times this year.
