NIACC women, men host Iowa Central in ICCAC twinbill

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – The No. 2 NIACC women’s basketball team hosts No. 10 Iowa Central in an ICCAC contest Saturday.

Game time is set for 1 p.m. in the NIACC gym.

NIACC (18-2 overall, 7-0 in the ICCAC) stopped Ellsworth 81-51 to improve to 10-0 at home this season. Sophomore Chelsey Jacox led the Lady Trojans with 25 points. The Lady Trojans also received 14 points from sophomore Lateeka Thompson and 10 from sophomore Kadejah Young.

Iowa Central (17-2, 6-1) has won eight straight games. The Tritons are led by sophomore Lydia Harvey, who averages 16.2 points per game.

NIACC is looking to snap a 17-game losing streak to Iowa Central. The last NIACC win in the series was a 54-52 win in the 2006-07 season.

Notes: NIACC coach Kelli Terrell has a career record of 48-34 … Terrell is 0-5 all-time against Ellsworth … Emily Bell and Kadejah Young both have 77 career 3-point goals … NIACC has 213 3-point goals this season … Jacox has 764 career points … Thompson has 666 career points.

Later that afternoon, the NIACC men’s basketball team returns to action Saturday at home against Iowa Central.

Game time is set for 3 p.m. in the NIACC gym.

NIACC (16-5 overall, 3-2 in the ICCAC) has won five straight games, including a 86-83 victory over Ellsworth on Wednesday. Freshman Conor Lang connected on a 3-point goal as time expired to give the Trojans’ the conference victory.

Sophomore Matthew Don led the Trojans with 21 points and a career-high 15 rebounds against Ellsworth. Sophomores David Humphries and Sam Skogen both scored 16 points against the Panthers.

Humphries averages 23.3 points a game to lead the Trojans. Skogen averages 13.4 points a game and Don averages 11.3 points a game.

Iowa Central (13-9, 3-3) is led by sophomore Dylan Travis, who averages 15.7 points per game.
