NIT – A Republican candidate for the Florida legislature has called for the hanging of President Barack Obama.
Joshua Black, an African-American candidate for the Florida House of Representatives, wrote via social media this week that he has basically had it with Mr. Obama, saying “I’m past impeachment. It’s time to arrest and hang him high.”
The tweet has caused an uproar around the nation, with some calling for Black to give up his candidacy. One of Black’s Twitter followers wrote back to him, saying “is it justice to advocate arrest and hanging without a trial? No, there’s an ugly historic precedent for that: lynching.”
Locally, prolific opinion writer and blogger Todd Blodgett of Clear Lake joined the chorus Wednesday, saying “In America, we can dislike our leaders as much as we wish, and openly express that dislike. But calling for the execution of a President is… crazy.”
Black claimed that the Secret Service had visited him in the wake of the controversial tweet.
As more people have piled on and left their opinions on Black’s statement – with most strongly disagreeing – Black said there was a misunderstanding.
“Blasphemy and false accusation,” Black proclaimed, as people all over the country picked up on his words and shared them. “I didn’t threaten. I said it is justice. It is,” Black said, trying to clarify his original statement.
The Chairman of the Florida Republican Party wants Black out of the legislative race, telling a Florida reporter that Black should bow out, and “that garbage does not represent the values of the people I know [no matter what party.]”
Black is not afraid of making powerful statements on hot-button topics.
On the subject of abortion, Black said “Blood money. That’s what this is. Anyway you slice it (gruesome pun intended), this is murder. I won’t advocate it. I won’t tolerate it. Those who commit murder need to repent. And we don’t need to pay them to cut off our offspring.”
What is your opinion. Did Joshua Black go too far?
