Border Patrol Agents foil two meth smuggling attempts

CAMPO, CA – U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Interstate 8 checkpoint arrested two individuals involved in two drug-smuggling events recently.

On Saturday at approximately 3:30 p.m., a 24-year-old female U.S. citizen arrived at the checkpoint driving a 2003 Nissan 350Z. A K-9 alerted to the vehicle and agents referred the woman for a secondary inspection. A search of the vehicle revealed a large non-factory stereo in the trunk. A subsequent search revealed four packages of methamphetamine hidden inside the stereo speaker. The drugs weighed 4.10 pounds and had an estimated street value of $47,150. The woman was arrested and turned over to a Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Task Force Officer for prosecution. The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.

Early Monday morning, a 53-year-old Mexican citizen driving a 1999 Ford F150 arrived at the checkpoint. A K-9 team passed the vehicle and alerted. The man was referred for a secondary inspection and provided inconsistent answers when questioned. A search of the F150 resulted in the discovery of 11 packages of methamphetamine beneath the truck and hidden inside the transfer case. The drugs weighed 13.80 pounds and had an estimated street value of $158,700. The man and narcotics were turned over to a DEA task force. The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
